Sembrava ormai fatta, o quasi, e invece…
Il progetto dei Crusaders di giocare la gara contro gli Sharks il 26 marzo a Twickenham è naufragato. A dire no è stata la RFU, la federazione inglese, per due motivi: la data troppo vicina e perché il 26 marzo al Twickenham Stoop (la “casa” degli Harlequins, un impianto di circa 13mila posti situato a fianco del tempio del rugby) è in programma la partita di Premiership tra Harlequins e Gloucester.
La RFU ha già informato Crusaders e Sharks. Alla franchigia neozelandese è stato però assicurato che Twickenham è disponibile ad ospitare una loro partita già in questo torneo di Super Rugby, basta una data senza problemi e un avvertimento che arrivi un po’ prima delle tre settimane scarse che ci sarebbero state in questo caso.
Insomma, appuntamento soltanto rinviato. Almeno per i Crusaders.
The RFU have however suggested that the Crusaders hold a match at Twickenham later in the season, “to continue to offer the hand of rugby friendship to Christchurch and its people”
“Given we are keen to help support the people of Christchurch as they recover from the dreadful events of the last few weeks, this was something we looked at seriously, even given the short time-frames involved. ” an RFU spokesman told the BBC.
“Unfortunately in the end it has just not proved possible to do this given the operational challenges involved and in particular the transport, policing and security issues that would arise from the clash with the Harlequins game on the same day less than one mile away.
“We have confirmed this to Crusaders today with regret.”
