Abili e arruolati. Chiliboy Ralepelle e Bjorn Basson possono tornare immediatamente a giocare a rugby. I due giocatori sudafricani, trovatipositivi a un test antidoping, sono stati scagionati, in quanto non potevano sapere e, quindi, non hanno barato. A questo punto, però, nasce un dubbio: perché in alcune discipline la squalifica scatta comunque, automatica?
Chiliboy Ralepelle e Bjorn Basson non si volevano dopare e non volevano imbrogliare. Questo è certo e la commissione giudicante non ha dubbi in proposito. Lo stimolante Methylhexaneamine trovato nei contolli antidoping era presente in un integratore che era stato dichiarato legale e, quindi, i due giocatori, così come la federazione sudafricana, non potevano immaginare contenesse una sostanza vietata. Assoluzione, quindi, concettualmente ineccebile, anche considerato che i due atleti sono comunque rimasti fermi per più di due mesi, da novembre a oggi.
Ma, qualcuno obietta, già in passato alcuni atleti di altre discipline sono stati squalificati pur avendo assunto il Methylhexaneamine involontariamente. Ralepelle e Basson hanno scampato la squalifica perché questa sostanza è stata declassata dalla Wada da stimolante non specifico a stimolante specifico proprio a partire dal primo gennaio 2011. Questo permette all’Irb di diminuire, o addirittura annullare, la squalifica, che altrimenti sarebbe stata tra i 3 mesi e i 2 anni. Ma proprio qui sta il punto. Se la Wada dichiara che gli atleti sono responsabili di ciò che assumono, che devono sapere se un prodotto è legale o meno, e che vengono condannati anche se l’assunzione risulta involontaria, è giusto che il declassamento di una sostanza sia retroattivo?

Subito dopo il match sono stato sottoposto ad un intervento chirurgico per verifcare che non ci fossero legamenti rotti: per fortuna la lesione è solo a livello cutaneo; mi hanno messo 14 punti. Bisogna solo essere pazienti e aspettare che si cicatrizzi. Da parte mia ce la metterò tutta per giocare contro l’Irlanda. Siamo stretti con i tempi (la ferita necessiterebbe 10 giorni di tempo per guarire completamente, ndr) ma sono fiducioso. Farò tutto il possibile per andare in campo.
Il capitano probabilmente rientrerà iniziare ad allenarsi con il gruppo solo a partire da Giovedì.

Stephen Ferris looks certain to join Ireland’s list of absentees for next weekend’s Six Nations opener against Italy in Rome.
The Ulster player told BBC Sport on Friday that he was resigned to missing the match because of a knee injury.
“It’s now looking as though I’m going to miss the Italy game,” said Ferris.
Already out for the injury-hit Irish are Tommy Bowe, Shane Horgan, John Hayes, Jamie Heaslip, Andrew Trimble, Rob Kearney and Geordan Murphy.
Ferris, 25, added: “I basically aggravated an old injury in my left knee in last week’s game against Aironi.
“It was during a pushover scrum near the end of the game and I felt my knee go and a pile of bodies then ended up on top of me.
“It’s very disappointing but I’m hoping to be back for the second game against France.”
The injury to Ferris further reduces Declan Kidney’s back-row options and Denis Leamy, David Wallace and Sean O’Brien now look the obvious choices for the Rome contest, with Shane Jennings also in contention.
Bowe is sidelined with a knee injury and is also a doubt for the clash with France a week later.
Hayes and Horgan are also expected to miss the encounter with France.
Leinster number eight Heaslip had his ankle injury reviewed by a specialist on Wednesday and it was confirmed that he will not be available for the Italy fixture, but could make a return against the French.
Heaslip’s injury has kept him out of Leinster’s Heineken Cup campaign since Christmas.
Horgan (knee) and Hayes (groin) were ruled out of the Italy game on Tuesday.
Leinster wing Horgan and Munster prop Hayes were both replaced at half-time in Heineken Cup matches last weekend.
Ulster wing Trimble misses out after breaking a bone in his right hand in the Heineken Cup win over Aironi.
